The Power of Tofurky

So it has been another snow bound week here in the Indy area. On Tuesday night there was a huge snow storm that left about a foot of snow...needless to say, the little Scion was having none of that and stayed put for two days. However, I was quite lucky in not having to work at the Bucks those days and was able to enjoy plenty of vegan cupcake food porn. What is it that makes one so delighted by the sight of little delicate pastries and treats that one could just stare and awe for hours. All I know is that there have been plenty of wasted hours looking at The Urban Housewife's Blog, The Bleeding Heart Bakery in Chicago's website, and of course Bake and Destroy also in Chicago.

Being inspired to make some wonderful little treats of my own I embarked on creating some vegan pizzas. Whole wheat dough with baby button mushrooms, black olives, rosemary, vegan mozzarella cheese and some amazingly delicious apple sausage Tofurky links. Brandon and I were both quite pleased with how they turned out.

Another way that the time has been passed is by discovering all of the wonderful options of little goodies that Boston has to offer. We are going to Boston in about two weeks and I am UBER excited! I have been once before, last fall, and realized that it is one of the most amazing cities here in the States. I love history, and this little city has a ton to offer. What can be cooler than walking down the street where Paul Revere hung out and lived? Maybe eating some cupcakes while strolling along would help...

Cupcake Heaven

What better word is there that can bring a smile to almost any one's face than
'cupcake'. You ask someone to come over to have a cupcake making party, and surely they will show up. Yesterday I thought that I should retest my theory that
Vegan Baking is an amazing cookbook and so Abby decided to partake in my quest and make 'Vegan Chocolate Creme Cheese Cupcakes'. Again, this book has not let me down and they turned out to be amazing little pieces of happiness.

It was definitely one of those days that one can remember. Meeting new people for lunch at the Shalimar in Broad Ripple. I absolutely love Indian food, but it is always intimidating that I am not sure all of the ingredients in things and so asking what this is and what that is, but learning what Ghee was certainly made me a little sick to my stomach. However, I think I could eat chickpeas all day long and be a happy camper. Afterwards, we went over to the Good Earth, a hippie-esq type grocery store that has been around for about 20+ years. It always makes me want to be a healtheier person, and gets me excited about what magical food or herb will cure what. I am always a sucker for the home remedies.

Snowy Days

So here it is, the first blog of my future blogging life. It seems that everyone is jumping on their keyboard wagons and starting one, so I figured..."Why not??".

Ever since I can remember, I have loved snowy days! There is just something about the fact that you are almost always "stuck" inside the safe security of home that makes me so happy. Unless of course you are going on day 21 and there aren't any books that you have to read and you've watched so much television that your mind is not even in a state where it could pick out what a book even looks like if it was laying right in front of you.
Last night, however, I was able to discover that there was an unread book in the apartment, and by golly I still know how to open it and spell out a couple of the words inside! For Christmas I was given Veganomicon and how can one go wrong when it is from the same authors of Vegan with a Vengenace and Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World. So thanks to Meh, I am not only able to practice the basic words I learned in 2nd grade, but also put on my bakers hat and have at it in the kitchen. Along with the wonderful help of Susan-an amazing chef all on her own-I can now embark on making Almond Anise Biscottis, Jelly Donut Cupcakes, and maybe, just maybe, if I am oh so lucky, some BBQ Black-Eyed Pea Collard Rolls. Eat your hear out Tony Bourdain.
